WARNING: You might start seeing ORANGE after reading this post. This afternoon, I decided to have a little fall fun with my niece. So, we headed off to the pumpkin patch! Don't you love a pumpkin patch in the fall? So many varieties of pumpkins - all shapes & sizes. Everywhere we looked, there were TALL, short, ROUND, whopper-jawed, ORANGE, white pumpkins - pumpkins of all kinds. We would see one we liked and would say "OH YEAH, but wait look at this one...oh yeah, but wait do you want a taller one?" What about a bigger one? a smaller one? It was funny. They all started to look alike after awhile. We had fun deciding which ones...but making MEMORIES is the best part! |
We discussed how we wanted to decorate so we could accurately pick out the ones we needed.
Pulling our little wagon, we loaded the carefully selected pumpkins all up in our handy dandy wagon, paid for them & securely placed them in the car.
Making sure "pumpkin was in a seat belt" took on a WHOLE new meaning today.

We headed home to start the REAL fun!
I would encourage you to head out to Pinterest or do an internet search for the countless ways to decorate pumpkins during the fall season. I found so many ideas, but wanted to keep things simple.
While my niece worked on her secret project to be revealed at a later date, I started working on my arrangement of 3 pumpkins for the front porch. I decided to try the beloved chevron pattern for one of them in my arrangement & here is what I did.

STEP 1: CHEVRON PATTERN (Medium pumpkin)
1. PREP & SUPPLIES NEEDED TO CREATE First, I wiped it down the pumpkin with a damp cloth to rid it of all the mud from the pumpkin patch.
|
2. PAINTERS TAPE - used painters tape to mark off the chevron pattern.
Can be tedious - so a little patience is needed.
How cute are these pumpkins?!

3. EASY AS 1 - 2 - 3: I spray painted the pumpkin & then removed the tape.
NOTE: If tape isn't completely pressed down the paint can leak a little behind the tape. That happened to mine, but NOT too bad. I think that hand painting you would be able to control that slightly better.

PART 2: LAST INITIAL (LARGE pumpkin)
I decided to do the first initial of my last name "P".
1. Found a FREE font online - named "Pinyon Script".
In any software, type a "P" in large font size & print it out.
Use the print out to trace the letter on the pumpkin.
I used a ball point pen as it was easier to see.

2. HAND PAINTED the traced letter "P" using an acrylic craft paint.
The first coat didn't go on well, so I ended up doing a second coat once the first coat dried.

3. ADDED 2nd COAT. Mission accomplished.
A simple way for anyone to decorate your pumpkins for fall (with a little patience).
Enjoy - have fun with your creations.
Share them with me if you like - I would love to see what creative ways you decorate this fall.
