WHERE DID THE TIME GO???? Just like everyone else, I BLINK and the week is gone. Life flashes before my eyes. Well, that has been the case this last week, from time consuming tasks of the "glamorous" de-cluttering of the closets to packing for a road trip & then the road trip itself. It's no wonder I haven't had a moment to gather my thoughts or post anything. Well, nothing like the present to get something done! So, if you are battling the clutter in your home, wrestle no more. Take a few minutes & discover some known & maybe not so known ways to conquer the clutter. |
BACK TO THE TOPIC OF STORAGE...
Since I have been "purging" & "de-cluttering" closets, organization has been front & center in my mind.
Making the MOST of the space can be a real challenge that most of us struggle with at times.
Don't we all wish for clutter-free homes & everything had it's own place. Reality reminds us that life isn't always that "neat", but I love the challenge.
For those of you who know me well, you KNOW I love love love to organize.
(NOTE: I said I LOVE to organize, but I'm not always good at KEEPING it that way - I'm a work in progress.)
Since one of the latest projects is my clothing closet, my goal is to maximize it & still have room for the "odds & ends".
SIDE NOTE - (ok, well a small paragraph) Let me just say that a closet can be one of the BIGGEST space wasters in a home (& often one of the messiest places in our homes).
! - TIP: If you have a small closet or area, the BEST & most useful tip is to GO VERTICAL!
I believe there is so much wasted empty space at the TOP & BOTTOM of our closets.
Over the years, I have so enjoy ripping out the "one-shelf" system (& re-purposing them) that is often installed in homes & replacing it with a much better use of the space. What do I replace it with??? I'm glad you asked...
I LOVE the Container Store.
It is an organizer's dream.
All I have to do is WALK in and my heart sings. Ahhhhhhh.

Doesn't it look like SUCH a fun place to shop!
One of my FAVORITE closet organizer systems is sold at the Container Store.
(Click on the link above & browse through their gallery for ideas of closet options.)
I am A HUGE fan of the ELFA closet system & the accessories they sell to help me stay organized.
NOTE: $ - I like to find ways to do things inexpensively, but this is one area I like to splurge. $$$$
It's an investment but it is WELL-WORTH every penny & MUCH MORE durable than other look-a-likes.
(If you decide to splurge a little, December is their BIGGEST ELFA sale during the year = 30%)
One thing I love is the versatility of it.
You are able to change/move the shelving around to fit your ever-changing needs.
The ONLY "holes" that you ever need to make are from strip installed at the very top.
BABY STEPS, saving & a little patience...Over time, I installed them in all my closets, laundry, pantry and storage to maximize the space in my previous home.
However, if you don't want the expense, don't fret! There are ENDLESS ways to organize - whether it's a closet, work space or pantry, no matter what the budget is. So many products out there can make the most out of the unused spaces in your home with drawers, bins, & baskets made just to fit your style.
Whether you buy a new shelving system or "shop" your own home for items you can re-purpose for storage...
reducing the clutter = reducing the chaos

I mentioned in the intro packing for a road trip. Well, I headed to Chicago.
While visiting there, I had to stop by WORLD MARKET.
While visiting there, I had to stop by WORLD MARKET.
If you have never been, you should visit one when you get the chance. It's a FUN store to find some stylish & simple ways to keep your house organized.
TO SUM IT ALL UP:
Whether it's baskets or bins, hooks or over-the-door organizers, bookshelves or dressers, be creative & maximize those empty spaces.
Those are just a few basic ideas to get your "organization" juices flowing...
Don't forget:
Take baby steps.
It can be overwhelming.
Start small (the sock drawer) & before you know it, you will have conquered the t-shirt drawer & your closet.
Soon, you will move on to the laundry room & pantry.
Share your ideas - I would love to see them!
Within the NEXT MONTH, I will show you what this closet ends up looking like as I try to utilize those "EMPTY" spaces after a quick trip to the Container store. :)
Stay tuned...
